• Foundation to support Peru search teams created by family of Lexington hiker who died in Andes Mountains (wdbj7.com) — A Lexington family is honoring Washington & Lee graduate Ian Treger by launching a nonprofit that equips and trains volunteer search-and-rescue teams in Peru's mountains. The Ian Treger Foundation is seeking donations and skilled volunteers like guides, medical professionals, and technical rescuers, and plans annual fundraising along with a gear-donation program for travelers returning from Peru.
   

• Here are the SOL reading and math scores for ABC13's viewing area (wset.com) — Lexington's public schools posted some of the strongest SOL results in ABC13's coverage area, with reading pass rates near 90% and math above 92% for 2025–26. The statewide averages also ticked up slightly, and nearby Rockbridge County's scores are listed, giving local families a clear benchmark to compare how students here are performing against surrounding districts and the rest of Virginia.
   

• VMI preps for first-time opponent Idaho St. to kickoff 2026 season (wsls.com) — VMI fans in Lexington can look ahead to a long road trip opener as the Keydets visit Idaho State this Saturday in first-year coach Ashley Ingram's debut. The team will unveil its triple-option offense, may rotate two quarterbacks, and faces an experienced Bengals squad that's coming off its first winning season since 2018.
