With no new leads from Newport News police, relatives are searching hospitals across Hampton Roads and urging anyone with information to contact detectives or leave an anonymous Crime Line tip.
   

2. VB, Norfolk reservoirs short 'at least 17 inches' of rain as drought conditions persist (wavy.com) — Newport News is joining nearby cities in asking residents to voluntarily conserve water as regional reservoirs sit far below normal after a year of scarce rainfall. While officials say there's still enough drinking water, they're urging people to cut back on nonessential uses like car washing and half-full dishwashers to avoid stricter mandatory restrictions later.
   

3. Six Virginia school systems announce 100% accreditation for 26-27 school year (wtkr.com) — Newport News Public Schools have earned full state accreditation for the second straight year, with 30 of 37 schools meeting or exceeding Virginia's academic expectations. The district joins five other Hampton Roads systems celebrating 100% accreditation, reflecting gains in student achievement, growth, and graduation readiness across the region.

Dominion-NextEra Merger Draws Divided Public Response at SCC Hearing in Newport News (wtkr.com) — Newport News hosted a key State Corporation Commission hearing where residents and officials weighed in on the proposed $67 billion Dominion–NextEra merger, with speakers split over consumer costs and long-term energy benefits. Testimony from the Christopher Newport University session will help shape regulators' final decision, expected January 11, 2027, on whether the deal serves Virginians' interests.
