S-23 Holdings expands Newport News shipyard, creating 414 jobs (wtkr.com) — Hundreds of new shipyard jobs are coming to Newport News as S23 Holdings invests $180 million to expand its repair facility off Terminal Avenue, including a modern shiplift system. City leaders say the project will boost local economic development and maritime security, while regional workforce programs ramp up training to feed the growing shipbuilding and repair industry.
   

3. VIDEO: Bardex to supply shiplift for River Port's Newport News shipyard (marinelog.com) — A major new shiplift system is planned for River Port's Newport News shipyard, boosting the facility's ability to handle larger Navy and commercial vessels. Operated by East Coast Repair & Fabrication, the Bardex-designed lift will expand local maintenance capacity and support long-term shipbuilding and repair work in Newport News when it comes online around 2028.
   

4. Newport News audit team identifies improper contractor charges in government cost review (tradersunion.com) — A Newport News-based federal audit team recently reviewed $21.3 million in contractor charges and flagged $288,000 as improper, helping protect taxpayer money. Their findings prompted the Department of Energy to order two more audits, underscoring how the Newport News office's data-driven work is shaping broader oversight of government contracts and tightening rules around reimbursable expenses.
