Houston County Board of Education propose attendance rezoning for certain elementary and middle schools (hhjonline.com) — Families in Perry could see significant school changes as Houston County proposes new attendance zones to prepare for Veterans Middle School's 2027–28 opening, shifting hundreds of middle and elementary students. Perry Middle would send many students to Veterans and some to Mossy Creek, though families can seek grandfathering so children finish their current school's grade band.
   

2. 2026 AGC Georgia Skills Challenge Series returns to Rome in October (wrganews.com) — Perry will host the Central Georgia Skills Challenge on October 29, bringing high school construction students and industry professionals together for hands-on competitions in trades like carpentry, welding, and electrical. The statewide AGC Georgia series highlights lucrative skilled careers, draws educators and lawmakers, and offers local students a chance to impress employers and qualify for larger SkillsUSA contests.
   

3. Treutlen, Bleckley win big to stay perfect, and more of the area's week 4 football results (courierheraldtoday.com) — Perry High's Panthers put up big offensive numbers in a high-scoring shootout, with quarterback Jhamard Cobb throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns despite two interceptions. Receiver J.D. Garman added a long kick-return score, but Northeast's explosive offense ultimately outpaced Perry in Friday's game at Macon's Thompson Stadium, part of a busy week of Heart of Georgia football action.
   

4. Turn Fish Research Into Art With The 2027 Fish Art Contest (gpb.org) — Perry's Go Fish Education Center will receive mailed entries and display top Georgia student artwork for the 2027 Fish Art Contest, giving local families a direct way to participate. Georgia K–12 students can research a fish species, create hand-drawn art, and, for older grades, submit short writing by February 28, 2027, with several special awards available.
