• Unlocking Forest Diversity from Above: Fieldwork at Smithsonian's BiodiversiTREE (nasa.gov) — Scientific teams from NASA and area universities recently wrapped up a week of intensive fieldwork at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's BiodiversiTREE site just outside Edgewater, studying how local forest tree diversity can be tracked from the air. Their measurements of leaves and tree health will help improve satellite and aircraft monitoring of forest recovery, resilience, and climate responses in Maryland and beyond.
