1. The RealReal To Open First Massachusetts Store In Chestnut Hill (patch.com) — Newton shoppers will soon have a new option for buying and consigning luxury fashion when The RealReal opens its first Massachusetts store at The Street Chestnut Hill on Oct. 15. The 1,800-square-foot Newton location will feature rotating pre-owned designer items, in-person valuations, and private appointments, expanding the company's online resale marketplace into a local brick-and-mortar destination.

2. Newton Woman May Lose Mini Horse Therapy Animal: Report (patch.com) — A Newton resident is reportedly at risk of losing her miniature horse, Clover, which she keeps as a therapy animal after investing heavily to build a backyard stable approved by the city. Complaints about odor have raised questions about whether the animal can remain, putting her planned visits to local nursing homes in doubt.

3. All-affordable housing development proposed for West Newton (newtonbeacon.org) — A 72-unit all-affordable apartment complex is proposed for 1314 Washington Street in West Newton, across from Newton Police Headquarters, with rents targeted to workers earning below area median income. The $62.5 million project, needing Affordable Housing Trust funding and state support, has sparked neighborhood pushback but could add significant workforce housing alongside other recent West Newton transformations.

4. Snapshots: Newton Cultural Council grant awards reception (newtonbeacon.org) — Newton residents just saw 47 local arts projects funded through the Newton Cultural Council, with the city now matching state cultural grants under Mayor Marc Laredo. A new Arts and Culture Department and an upcoming poet laureate program, in partnership with the Newton Free Library, signal more city-backed cultural programming on the way.
