'Something needs to be done': Families with young children left without power at Sharpstown apartments (click2houston.com) — Families at the Falls of Point West Apartments in southwest Houston's Sharpstown neighborhood have endured days without power in dangerous heat, spoiling food and affecting young children and infants. City agencies, the Houston Office of Emergency Management, and nonprofits have deployed buses, cooling help, and food, while residents without restored electricity are urged to use Houston cooling centers and call 311 for transportation.
   

2. Houston immigration attorney charged in alleged fraud scheme (click2houston.com) — A Houston immigration attorney has been arrested and charged with mail fraud and making false statements in connection with alleged mishandling of clients' immigration applications. Federal and local investigators say she took payments but often failed to properly file paperwork, allegedly giving clients misleading case documents; if convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a substantial fine.
   

3. Margaritaville at Sea adds biggest ship Beachcomber to Galveston in 2027 (cw39.com) — Houston-area travelers will soon have another easy cruise option when Margaritaville at Sea's new Beachcomber ship begins sailing from Galveston in October 2027. With four- to seven-night Caribbean and Mexico itineraries and new onboard venues, residents can skip flights to other ports and plan drive-to vacations more than a year in advance.
   

4. Veteran's fishing wish granted by nonprofit (click2houston.com) — A Houston-based chapter of the nonprofit Twilight Wish recently granted Marine veteran Dicker Ray Chavis a long-hoped-for fishing trip on Galveston Bay. Volunteers, including the owner of Eagle Point Fishing Camp, helped him reel in multiple fish, highlighting how the Houston chapter supports seniors and veterans with meaningful experiences and basic needs.
   

5. Congressman Al Green, the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, and the Montrose Center will Address the Maltreatment of Transgender Immigrants in ICE Detention Facilities (house.gov) — Houston residents are invited to watch Congressman Al Green and local LGBTQ+ leaders hold a Houston press conference today on the treatment of transgender immigrants in ICE detention, including concerns about medical care and safety. The event, featuring the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus and the Montrose Center, will be livestreamed on YouTube at 10:30 a.m. CT for anyone wishing to follow developments.
