Intense heat returns to Virginia this week, though highs are not quite as intense as those brought by the heat dome earlier this month.
Scorching temperatures will descend across Virginia this week, as heat index values are forecast to exceed 100-degree territory.
While the core of the latest heat dome won't be directly over the state, Virginians still won't be getting much of a reprieve from the blistering conditions.

The National Weather Service said temperatures will only continue to increase through the week after Monday's readings peaked in the high 80s.

By Tuesday, temperatures will creep into the high 90s.
Residents can expect the peak of the heat to arrive on Wednesday and stick around through Thursday. Wednesday's high is 98, with a heat index value as high as 104.
