• Swimming Advisory Issued for King-Lincoln Beach in Newport News (virginia.gov) — If you're heading to King-Lincoln Beach in Newport News, be aware that health officials have issued a swimming advisory after recent tests showed bacteria levels above state standards. Warning signs are posted, and another round of test results is expected Thursday; the advisory will be lifted once the water is deemed safe again, so check for updates before you go.

• Amtrak to run only 1 roundtrip train daily to Hampton Roads for 9 nine days in October (wavy.com) — If you rely on Amtrak from Newport News, all trains in and out of the city will be canceled Oct. 16–26 while critical tunnel work is done in Washington, D.C. During that stretch, only one daily roundtrip train will run from Norfolk, but express buses serving Newport News and other Hampton Roads cities will continue and even add an extra roundtrip option.

• JFK carrier completes sea trials amid debate over future carrier design (wtkr.com) — Newport News Shipbuilding has the future aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy back in port after successful sea trials, with delivery to the Navy planned for March 2027. Local leaders, including Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Jen Kiggans, are split over a proposal from former President Trump to revert future carriers to older launch and elevator technology, a change that could affect costs, design work, and shipyard planning in Newport News.
