Local tourism leaders are investing visitor-paid taxes into expanding festivals and studying upgrades to Durham County Memorial Stadium to attract more championships and large events residents can enjoy.

2. Man arrested in Durham murder of Morrisville man earlier this month, police say (cbs17.com) — A Durham man has been arrested and jailed without bond in connection with an early-August fatal shooting in northeast Durham, where a 21-year-old Morrisville resident was killed near Melbourne Street and Ross Road. Police say the suspect was already on pretrial release, and his first appearance in Durham County District Court is set for Monday morning.

3. 6 nabbed in Durham 'illegal nightclub' raid at Dearborn Drive home, NC ALE says (cbs17.com) — State alcohol law enforcement agents shut down an alleged illegal nightclub operating out of a home on Dearborn Drive in Durham's Braggtown neighborhood early Saturday. Officers seized guns, drugs, cash and liquor, and arrested six people on 13 felony charges, raising safety concerns for residents living near the makeshift club.

Oktoberfest at Durham Beer Garden on Sept. 19 - Triangle on the Cheap (triangleonthecheap.com) — Durham Beer Garden on North Mangum Street is throwing its 3rd Annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1 to 10 p.m., and admission is free. Expect German-style beers, a special brat-and-pretzel menu, live music, and day-of competitions, plus collectible steins with discounted refills for a full day of Oktoberfest fun in downtown Durham.
