• HBCU Football Schedule: Games to watch Oct. 10 (amsterdamnews.com) — Elizabeth City State's homecoming game is set for Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Vikings host Lincoln (Pa.) at 1 p.m. in Elizabeth City. The matchup is one of several notable HBCU games that day, but for local fans it's the centerpiece of homecoming festivities and a big chance to pack the stands in support. 
• Coast Guard orders six additional C-130J surveillance aircraft (seapowermagazine.org) — Elizabeth City's Coast Guard air station is one of just three bases that will eventually operate an expanded fleet of 25 new HC-130J long-range surveillance aircraft. The added planes, arriving between 2028 and 2030, are meant to boost missions like search and rescue, border security, and disaster response, potentially increasing activity and capabilities at the local air station.
