Four displaced, pet dead after multi-unit fire in Norfolk (13newsnow.com) — A multi-unit fire in Norfolk's Ocean View neighborhood displaced four residents Thursday afternoon and left one pet dead, though no people were injured. Norfolk Fire-Rescue quickly contained the blaze on Granby Street, but all four apartments were affected, and at least one resident is receiving help from the American Red Cross while investigators determine the cause.
   

2. Proposed pedestrian flyover bridge moves closer to reality in Norfolk (wavy.com) — A new $50,000 grant from Norfolk Southern is pushing plans for a pedestrian flyover bridge between West Ghent and Lambert's Point closer to reality, potentially replacing the cramped Hampton Boulevard underpass. The Elizabeth River Trail Foundation will use the funding for surveying, engineering, and community outreach to design a safer elevated route for walkers and cyclists along the trail.
   

3. HRBT Closure Sends Peninsula-Bound Drivers to Alternate Routes Through Weekend (wtkr.com) — If you're driving from Norfolk to the Peninsula this weekend, expect major changes as the westbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel stays closed for repaving until early Monday. Drivers are being rerouted via I-664 and the Monitor-Merrimac, while Ocean View residents brace for heavy congestion on West Ocean View Avenue and urge neighbors to plan ahead or stay close to home.
   

4. A new report says Norfolk Naval Shipyard has to juggle aging infrastructure and massive upgrades (wvtf.org) — Norfolk-area readers may be interested that Norfolk Naval Shipyard faces a long, costly overhaul as it juggles aging facilities with billions in planned upgrades. A new federal report urges better tracking of these modernization projects, even as the yard expands to support Ford-class carriers and Virginia-class submarines with more than a billion dollars of work already underway.
   

5. Chinese radiator shipments worth $206,513 stopped in Norfolk (wavy.com) — Customs officers at the Port of Norfolk recently seized more than 1,800 automotive radiators worth over $200,000 after discovering they were imported from China using stolen identities. Officials say the three September seizures, plus an earlier August case, reflect a growing pattern of fraudulent auto-part imports that they're targeting to protect legitimate businesses and consumers.
