Officials say the $389 million effort will add express lane options while modernizing aging infrastructure to improve reliability for daily commuters across Hampton Roads.

Norfolk Botanical Garden honors Black workers who built it 88 years ago, adds 4 new names (wtkr.com) — Norfolk residents are being invited to reflect on the Black women and men who cleared the land for Norfolk Botanical Garden in 1938, as four more workers' names were added during Heritage Day. Families from Norfolk and nearby cities shared stories and photos, turning once-ignored, segregated-era labor into a point of community pride while the garden continues searching for additional workers' identities.
   

3. Rising costs leave more Virginia families struggling with food insecurity (13newsnow.com) — Norfolk families are being hit hard by rising food insecurity, with local nonprofit ForKids reporting surging calls for rental and food assistance as housing and other basic costs climb. The group is sending many residents to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia for SNAP help and says more small churches and agencies offering food baskets could significantly ease the strain on local households.
   

4. Battle brews over infrastructure concerns at Norfolk high rise (wavy.com) — A Norfolk mother in Ghent's Pembroke Towers says repeated water leaks have left her apartment walls wet for weeks, and she's pressing building management for lasting repairs. Management insists they're maintaining the 1965 high-rise with contractors and inspections, but residents remain worried as new leaks appear even while drywall replacement is scheduled.
