1. Light rail, Amtrak affected by tidal flooding in Norfolk (wavy.com) — Tidal flooding around Harbor Park has temporarily shut down HRT light rail service between Norfolk State University and Eastern Virginia Medical School, disrupting a key transit corridor for Norfolk commuters. The same storm has chewed away more Ocean View beachfront and destroyed the ADA ramp at Ocean View Beach Park, prompting city leaders to plan an October meeting on long-term fixes.
   

2. AASHTO Journal - VDOT Starts on Section of Hampton Roads Express Lanes (transportation.org) — Norfolk drivers will see major changes on I-64 as VDOT's Hampton Roads Express Lanes Norfolk Segment 1B project begins construction in fall 2026, running about seven miles through the city. Backed by a large federal loan, the project will add part-time express lanes, upgrade 21 bridges, and install tolling and noise barriers, aiming to ease congestion and modernize this busy corridor.
   

3. AIM Norfolk Fall Career Fair (auvsi.org) — Norfolk residents interested in aviation and drone technology can meet hiring employers at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance's Fall Career Fair on October 21–22 at the Little Creek Road campus. The event connects local students, graduates, and many military-affiliated candidates with companies seeking aviation maintenance and uncrewed systems technicians, including chances to share résumés and interview on-site.
   

4. 2 contractors killed in accident at Norfolk International Terminals, Port says (wtkr.com) — Two contractors have died after a workplace accident this week at Norfolk International Terminals' South Berth, a tragedy now under investigation by OSHA and other authorities. The Port of Virginia and the contractors' employer, McLean Contracting, say they're supporting families and coworkers while working with investigators to determine what went wrong.
   

5. Norfolk State junior gains prestigious spot in USA Basketball initiative (pilotonline.com) — A Norfolk State University junior, Madison Galloway, has earned a coveted spot in USA Basketball's Torch Leadership in Sport mentoring cohort, bringing national recognition to NSU. The roundup also covers ODU volleyball's home loss in Norfolk and other Virginia college sports results that local fans may be following closely.
