Stuck elevators, out traffic lights: Third power outage in four days near Downtown Norfolk (wtkr.com) — A third power outage in four days hit central Norfolk Sunday, darkening traffic lights and briefly trapping residents in a Hague Towers elevator while more than 3,500 Dominion customers lost power from Ghent to Saint Paul's and Huntersville. Dominion says each outage had a different technical cause and stresses its safety systems and restoration efforts as residents brace for a hot week.
   

2. Norfolk animal shelter hoping to unite pets with their forever families (13newsnow.com) — Norfolk's city-run Animal Care and Adoption Center is still offering low-fee adoptions and urgently needs local families to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate supplies. Even though the Clear the Shelters push just ended, you can still visit the Sabre Road shelter during its regular hours to meet dogs, cats, and pocket pets looking for homes.
   

3. Naval Station Norfolk implements heightened security measures (pilotonline.com) — Heightened security at Naval Station Norfolk is closing some gates and reducing lanes, meaning longer waits for anyone entering the base today and in coming days. Officials say the changes are precautionary, are being coordinated with law enforcement partners, and will be adjusted as conditions evolve, but they're urging personnel and visitors to allow extra travel time.
   

4. Business Notes: New leader at Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society; $750K awarded for Norfolk rail project (pilotonline.com) — Norfolk readers will want to know that Fairwinds Terminal Services just secured $750,000 in state rail funding to upgrade tracks at its Fairwinds Landing facility, supporting jobs and reducing truck traffic. The roundup also highlights Norfolk State University's national Blackboard award, a new Norfolk-based market leader at Eide Bailly, and regional grants and workforce efforts that include Norfolk organizations and officials.
   

5. Norfolk Fire & Rescue conducts company preplans to prepare for emergencies (norfolkneradio.com) — Norfolk Fire & Rescue is stepping up preparedness by conducting detailed "company preplans" at local sites like the Northeast Community College iHub, mapping layouts, hazards and access points before emergencies happen. These living documents help firefighters and medics reach patients faster, navigate complex buildings more safely, and adjust plans as properties are renovated or change use.
