New exhibit at American Revolution museum highlights nation's 250th anniversary (dailypress.com) — Yorktown residents can now explore “Give Me Liberty: Virginia and the Forging of a Nation” at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, an in-depth exhibit running through Jan. 31, 2027. The show highlights Virginia’s role in the Revolution and includes perspectives of Indigenous people and African Americans, and residents of York County, James City County, Williamsburg, and William & Mary students get free admission with proof of residency.

2. Homelessness dips in Williamsburg area says regional study (williamsburgindependent.com) — York County residents may be encouraged to see homelessness numbers in the greater Williamsburg area, including York County, tick down slightly in the latest regional count, even as shelter capacity shrank. The same roundup notes that 94 York County and nine Historic Yorktown attractions just earned “Best of Coastal Virginia” honors across more than 100 categories. Together, the findings highlight both ongoing social needs and strong tourism appeal close to home.

3. The Intoxicating History of the American Revolution (williamsburgfamilies.com) — Yorktown history buffs can head to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown on August 29 for an evening talk on how taverns and drinking culture shaped the Revolution. Historian Brooke Barbier will explore alcohol’s surprising role in politics, relationships, and the colonial economy. Tickets include light bites and two historic cocktails, with a discount for museum members.

4. Arts-based therapies help patients build ‘sense of resilience, hope' (dailypress.com) — Cancer patients in Hampton Roads can now join a Sentara study that includes music therapy sessions at Tidewater Music Therapy in Yorktown, alongside art-focused options in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. The yearlong project will track how these arts-based therapies affect anxiety, depression, and unplanned medical visits, inspired in part by the legacy of young neuroblastoma patient Benjamin Goldberg.
