On Sunday, September 27th, 2026, acclaimed chef, author, and television personality Vivian Howard will welcome award-winning North Carolina novelist Michael Parker to Theodosia, her signature restaurant at The Sanderling Resort in Duck, North Carolina, for a one-of-a-kind culinary and literary experience.

Inspired by Parker's acclaimed novel The Watery Part of the World, the event explores one of North Carolina's most enduring mysteries—the disappearance of Theodosia Burr, who vanished off the Outer Banks in 1813 while sailing from South Carolina to New York. The novel imagines her fate, weaving together history, folklore, and the distinctive landscapes of Eastern North Carolina.

Theodosia Burr's remarkable story also served as the inspiration behind Howard's vision for Theodosia, where the region's culinary traditions, coastal heritage, and storytelling come together around the table.

During the event, Howard will moderate a conversation with Parker exploring the inspiration behind the novel, the enduring mystery of Theodosia Burr, and the people, places, and folklore that continue to shape North Carolina's coastal identity.
