1. This SC city poised to annex busy commercial corridor. Here's the plan (thestate.com) — Greenville City Council is set to vote Aug. 24 on annexing 138 acres along Woodruff Road, including Sam's Club and Merovan Business Center, in what would be the city's largest annexation since 2024. If approved, Greenville could eventually take a bigger role in traffic control and planning on one of the county's most congested corridors, aiming to smooth traffic and guide future growth.
   

2. Meeting Street Scholarship Fund for SC grads expands statewide (greenvillejournal.com) — Greenville County high school seniors will soon be eligible for the expanded Meeting Street Scholarship Fund, which is expected to award about $2.18 million to 273 local students. Backed by new state funding and private donations, the program can provide up to $10,000 a year for tuition, housing, meals, and fees to qualifying low-income students who earn LIFE or Palmetto Fellows scholarships and attend in-state colleges.
   

3. Triumph Earns Point Against One Knoxville (greenvilletriumph.com) — Greenville Triumph SC earned a home point Saturday night at GE Vernova Park, drawing 1–1 with One Knoxville after conceding a stoppage‑time equalizer. Muba Nour's fourth goal of the season briefly put Greenville ahead, and head coach Dave Dixon praised the team's organization and effort as they now look ahead to an August 22 road trip to Spokane.
   

4. August 15 declared 'India Day' during celebration in downtown Greenville (foxcarolina.com) — August 15 is now officially India Day in the city of Greenville, marked by a colorful downtown parade near the Peace Center organized by the India Association of Greenville. Hundreds turned out as Mayor Knox White and city leaders highlighted Greenville's Indian community, while the group also donated thousands of dollars to Communities in Schools and Berea High School.
   

5. The Henry Passage, a 1.5 mile out-and-back trail, is now open in SC (greenvilleonline.com) — A strenuous new 1.5‑mile Palmetto Trail segment, the Henry Passage, is now open in the Blue Ridge Escarpment and honors Greenville native Henry Simpson. With about 800 feet of elevation gain and free access for now, the trail links beloved Upstate areas like Jones Gap and Caesars Head, with parking off Gap Creek Road in Marietta.
