Va. city approves 48-hour workweek for firefighters (firerescue1.com) — Virginia Beach City Council has approved cutting firefighters' average workweek from 56 to 48 hours and authorized hiring 63 new full-time firefighters to make it possible. The change, expected to take effect in 2028, aims to improve firefighter health, family time, and emergency readiness for Virginia Beach residents during hurricanes, tornadoes, and other major incidents.
   

3. Virginia Beach farm-to-table kitchen plans fall opening (pilotonline.com) — A longtime Virginia Beach farming family is opening a new farm-to-table kitchen at Creekmore's Place on Indian River Road by November, backed by a state grant and city match. Shoppers will soon be able to grab prepared dishes like tomato pie, sweet potato pie, and collard greens alongside fresh produce, all rooted in recipes passed down on the family's Virginia Beach farm.
   

4. Israeli AI maritime tech company joins Virginia Beach incubator (pilotonline.com) — Virginia Beach just landed Orca AI Defense, a subsidiary of a London-based maritime tech firm that opened its first U.S. office in the city's International Incubator. The company plans to hire locally and pursue defense and maritime partnerships across Hampton Roads, potentially bringing new high-tech jobs and innovation opportunities to Virginia Beach residents and businesses.
   

5. Gas prices jump in Hampton Roads amid global conflict tensions (wavy.com) — Drivers in Virginia Beach are now facing diesel prices averaging $6.18 per gallon, about 31 cents higher than last week, as global conflicts push fuel costs sharply higher. Experts warn residents to brace for more price volatility and likely ripple effects on groceries and other goods across Hampton Roads in the coming weeks.
